About Andrew Dunlap

Hailing from Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Andrew Dunlap is currently pursuing a master’s degree in violin performance at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, Texas. A past finalist in the Bolz Young Artist Competition, Andrew has performed as soloist with the Madison Symphony Orchestra and has appeared twice with the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra including collaborating in the world premiere performance of Emmy-Award winning composer Garth Neustadter’s Double Violin Concerto. He has been featured on multiple occasions on Wisconsin Public Radio with pianist and former MSO music director Wayne Wildman, and on Wisconsin Public Television.

Andrew served as concertmaster for the Collegium Musicum Festival Orchestra in Pommersfelden, Germany, as well as the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, where he completed his undergraduate degree. As a chamber musician, he was recently selected by Madeline Island Chamber Music to serve as artist-in-residence as a quartet member, giving a series of performances, presentations, and masterclasses in the Twin Cities. He has performed with various contemporary artists including Meredith Andrews, Michael W. Smith, Clay Walker, and the heavy metal band Disturbed.

Andrew’s major violin teachers include MSO concertmaster Carrie Kulas and Lawrence University Professor Samantha George, as well as Eastman School of Music Professors Charles Castleman and Renée Jolles. He currently studies with Rice University Professor Paul Kantor. In addition to his interest in music, Andrew enjoys reading, soccer, kayaking, and many types of games.
