Wayne Wildman Receives 2021 Service to Music Award
MADISON, WI – April 2021 – On Friday, April 9, 2021 the AWSO announced Wayne Wildman as the winner of the 2021 Service to Music Award. This annual award is designed to recognize someone who has had a sustained impact on community music organizations in the state. The award recognizes impact in multiple areas such as education, community outreach, activity in state and national organizations and service to the music community. The award was presented at the 2021 workshop.
Sheboygan-born maestro Wayne Wildman was educated at Lakeland College and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. In June of 2019, he retired after twenty-nine seasons as Music Director of the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra.
An active, harpsichordist, organist and pianist, Wildman has made solo appearances with the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra and the Sheboygan, Manitowoc and Green Bay Civic Orchestras. For six seasons, he performed as harpsichordist and pianist at the Washington Island Music Festival. He has also been heard on Wisconsin Public Radio and on the CD recording High Autumn, featuring Milwaukee Symphony clarinetist William Helmers playing the music of James Grant.
Wildman has also served as the Music Director of First United Lutheran Church in Sheboygan for the last twenty-six years. He is an avid collector of books and a fan of large-breed dogs.
