Manitowoc Ballet Academy owner Elizabeth Check grew up dancing in Manitowoc. Once she got her pointe shoes in 7th grade, she decided Ballet was her career path. As she entered high school, it became clear that the schools in Manitowoc couldn’t offer the professional level of training needed to excel in a ballet career. Her training was behind, so she studied and trained to elevate herself to that professional level. Through the study of Ballet Pedagogy and Beth’s knowledge in the professional world, Manitowoc Ballet Academy is on a technical level of its own.

As well as offering classes for school-aged kids, MBA offers adult open classes for those who want to continue dancing as adults, or even start. MBA doesn’t just create dancers, they create bright young artists.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Valentines, GALentines and PALentines Enjoy the most Colorful and Arresting Ballet Music

MANITOWOC, WI, February 3, 2025 – Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra (MSO) presents &We Ballet, A Little Romance on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, Sleeping Beauty and Faust headline a concert featuring some of the most treasured and enduring ballet scores ever composed.

The Symphony will perform Suite from Sleeping Beauty, op.66, about which was written, “…the music from this ballet will be amongst my best works. The subject is so poetical, it is so suited for music, that in composing it I was utterly absorbed, and wrote with a fervor and passion which always result in work of merit,” wrote the composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. “The Sleeping Beauty is perhaps the best of all my compositions…”

The Symphony’s Valentine program will also include Ballet Music from Le Cid by Jules Massenet, Ballet Music from Faust by Charles Gounod, and Boléro by Maurice Ravel. The full orchestra experience will be complemented with a live ballet performance by Manitowoc Ballet Academy under the direction of Beth Check.

“This program is especially compelling for its storytelling,” remarked MSO Music Director Dylan Chmura-Moore. “Each piece is connected to an irresistible tale that will be further enhanced by the enchanting performance of the ballet dancers joining us on stage.”

“Music, dinner, flowers, candy, love can be combined in any combination for a truly special and unique Valentine’s Day experience,” commented Peggy Pitz, MSO Executive Director. “Whether it’s shared with your sweetheart, GALentines or PALentines, this music and concert experience will appeal to a variety of interests.”

The concert will take place at the Capitol Civic Centre. Tickets are currently available by visiting

manitowocsymphony.org/ballet. Tickets for individuals aged 35 and under are $17, while children 10 and under are free. Concert goers are invited to join the orchestra for additional merry making at a postconcert After Glow hosted at The Stage Door Pub.
