Principal Bassoon

Joshua Fleming

An active bassoonist in the Midwest, Joshua Fleming has performed at Orchestra Hall and Ravinia with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and at Carnegie Hall during the 2012 Spring for Music Festival with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. He has performed under the baton of conductors Edo de Waart, Charles Dutoit, Jaap van Zweden, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Andreas Delfs, Harry Bicket, and James Conlon. Additionally, he has performed with artists Yo-Yo Ma, Gil Shaham, and James Ehnes. He is a recent alumnus and Citizen Musician Fellow of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

As a soloist, Mr. Fleming was the winner of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Concerto and Aria Competition, and Band Concerto Competition. He was privileged to perform Concerto by Weber and Gordon Jacob with the UWM Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. Also an avid chamber music enthusiast, Mr. Fleming was a member of the MusiCorps woodwind quintet, where he enjoyed presenting educational music programming to schools and communities in Chicago.

Mr. Fleming earned a B.M. in bassoon performance from Michigan State University, where he studied with Michael Kroth. Afterwards, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he studied with Ted Soluri and earned a M.M. in bassoon performance and a Performer’s Certificate from the Leonard Sorkin Institute of Chamber Music. In his spare time, he enjoys home brewing.
